MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Office of English Language Acquisition under the U. S. Department of Education is to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence throughout the nation.

The Jefferson Parish Public School System English Language Acquisition Department seeks to develop our English  Learners’ (ELs) English proficiency while advancing their academic achievement and to support them in becoming productive, contributing citizens in the United States and in the ever-changing global society.  The ESL instructional program will accomplish this mission as it

• creates a supportive learning environment.
• values and builds upon students’ academic, linguistic, and cultural background.
• assists students in reaching their full academic potential.
• encourages participation of students and their families within the school community.
• fosters understanding and appreciation of diverse populations within the school community.
